The program is designed to detect and delete spyware modules that appear on the hard drive, especially after installing so-called freeware. The distinguishing feature of Spybot-Search&Destroy is that in case the removal of this module leads to a failure in the program it belongs to (though this module is a completely standalone program), Spybot-S&D can replace it with an empty module that will neither collect any data regarding your preferences nor send it anywhere, of course...

Another option in the program is removing all Internet traces and any traces of what has been done with the computer. Spybot-Search&Destroy can clear the cache and history of the browser, remove cookies (Opera, IE and Netscape are supported) and also clear the lists of recent files, recently run programs, etc.
